My heart sometimes is beating like a drum 1 or 2 beats, then normal or quiet beat. What is that?

Is there something wrong when my heart beats like a drum few times like 1 or 2 beats, then back normal beat? Or is that normal? Maybe not sleeping well, or what?

  1. The symptoms you are describing are palpitations. Premature heart beats are the most common cause and usually not secondary to a serious condition. When you have a premature beat, the following beat is delayed and has a stronger contraction. This can give the sensation of a skipped heart beat or palpitation. Everyone has premature beats and you can have up to 6 in a minute and still be considered normal. Caffeine, nicotine, some illegal drugs, and anxiety can increase the frequency and severity of palpitations. If the symptoms are frequent and severe, then see your doctor about it.

  2. When the heart beats too fast, too slow, or with a skipping (irregular) rhythm, a person is said to have an arrhythmia. A change in the heart’s rhythm may feel like an extra-strong heartbeat (palpitation) or a fluttering in your chest. A heartbeat that is occasionally irregular usually is not a concern if it does not cause other symptoms, such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or shortness of breath
