If I listen to rap music what does that say about my character/personality type?

Knowing that the lyrics are very derogatory towards women, consistently has racial slurs, promotes gang violence, promotes drug abuse, and in some cases suicide. I continue to pay for and enjoy Rap.

What does that say about me?

If I were a regular guy off the street what does that say about me?
TOTARAM what is SRK?

  1. that you like rap music. If you choose to listen to rap, that is your choice. I think you are thinking way too much into this.

  2. music does not determine your personality. it depends on the mood of the person what to listen to

  3. It depends on whether or not you just like the music or if you identify with the themes. Personally, I’m so opposed to the glorification of those themes so I would reject the songs even if I liked the music.

  4. It says that you like rap music, nothing more. What would be more worrying is if you embrace the lyrics and incorporate them into your lifestyle and day to day dealings with life and women. Much of rap is misogynistic, but unless you behave in that fashion, it is simply something you like. If you try to live the celebrated ‘gangsta’ lifestyle, or even look like you embrace it, then the problem is deeper. Quite simply, if you’re not in the army, don’t wear the uniform. People get upset when judgments are made about young people wearing hoodies and sagging, etc. Be honest. While it may not mean you’re a thug, it may mean you are. When you see older men with massive butt crack showing, you make judgments about them. When you see old women in flowered prints and those noxious sweatshirts, with those inane poodle appliques, you make judgments about them. Same thing.
